Vision Training with USAV's Stacy Sykora
This is the first video of many to come. Keep checking back for more in the coming months. I'll also be posting links on my Twitter page @aboutvb and my About.com Facebook page
In this installment, we follow Stacy Sykora, silver medalist and three-time Olympian, attempting to make her fourth Olympic team. Her presence on the London 2012 squad might have been a no-brainer had she not been in a bus crash while traveling to a match with her Brazilian pro team.
Back in April 2011, Stacy suffered a serious brain injury that left her in a coma for three days. Doctors were not optimistic, but Stacy has proven them wrong at every opportunity. Just a few months after the accident, Stacy is back in the gym. Her body has recovered, but the brain injury has caused some vision problems that effect her on the court.
In this video, we tag along with Stacy through her weekly vision training regimen as she fights to regain her complete vision field. Just days later, Stacy plays in her first intra-squad scrimmage, talks to us about how it feels to be back and gives advice to anyone going through adversity.
